Novak Djokovic is the reigning defending French Open champion in the men’s singles. On the other hand, it is Garbiñe Muguruza who is holding the Championship since 2016 in women’s singles. The French Open 2016 has been a great tournament which witnessed many awesome matches. From Novak Djokovic winning the men’s title to many controversies happening around, the French Open 2016 was one of the best editions of the French Open. This makes the people anticipate that the French Open 2017 would be yet another great edition.

The French Open 2017, as always, is run by the International Tennis Federation (ITF). Under the Grade A category, there are singles and doubles events for men and women under 18. For the wheelchair tennis players, singles and doubles events are also hosted under the Grand Slam category. This tournament is decided to be played on clay courts and the whole tournament will take place over a series of 22 courts. The three main show courts under these 22, are Court Philippe Chatrier, Court Suzanne Lenglen and Court 1.

The first round play of the men’s and women’s singles will have all eyes on Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray and Dominic Thiem from the men’s side. From the women’s side, it will be Angelique Kerber, Simona Halep, and the reigning defending champion of the women, Garbine Muguruza who will catch all eyes. On an opening day, that is today, the French Open 2017 will witness Dominic Thiem and Anjelique Kerber’s matches respectively. Angelique Kerber comes in to play the tournament with a great momentum. She is the top seed after winning 2 Grand Slam titles in 2016. However, on the other hand, she has never been past the quarter-finals of any French Open’s edition. This time this aspiring lady wants to win the French Open as well to make her 2017 as good as 2016. Dominic Thiem has never been beyond semifinals in any Grand Slam tournament. In the French Open 2016, his performance was very good but another tournament he usually goes maximum only up to the fourth round.
