OPPO launch Team India’s new jersey for Champions Trophy – Big news just revealed from BCCI, BCCI is going to hand over sponsorship to OPPO. OPPO a newly emerged Phone manufacturing company will be the new team sponsors for the Indian cricket team. It will take effect from April 2017 and will continue for five years according to a contract made between Board of Control for Cricket in India and OPPO Electronics Corp.
BCCI said in a release on Tuesday 7 March 2017 “The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is pleased to announce OPPO Mobiles India Private Limited as the new team sponsor for the Indian Cricket Team,”
“The mobile manufacturing giant OPPO’s association with BCCI will start from April 2017 for a period of five years,” BCCI further added.
Star India Sponsors Of Indian Cricket Team in past
Although Star India had made it clear that they are not interested in renewal sponsorship deal for next 5 years but they would go for bidding on next cycle. It is being said that the reason for relieving from sponsorship is that the company had cited BCCI not fulfilled its commitment. Star India had taken sponsorship since 2013 from Sahara. Sahara a big brand no longer stayed in India with reputation and hence Sahara declared ineligible by the BCCI Board Star India has relieved sponsorship from Indian Cricket Team. However, they said that they would be bidding for the sponsorship for next round.
At present, Star India owns the rights till March 31.
In five years starting April, team India is expected to play 259 matches, including 238 bilateral matches and 21 across ICC tournaments — ICC Champions Trophy in June 2017, 2019 ICC World Cup, 2020 ICC World T20, and 2021 ICC Champions Trophy.
